A girl turned on her computer.  After a long stressful day of hard work at school and hours of homework, she was finally happy to just sit back and relax, check some social media and watch some videos on YouTube.

The monitor came on and the girl hesitated, looking at the background image she had put on only last night when it seems like such an overly good idea. She reached forward and placed her hand on the image of a woman, running her fingers down the side of the woman's face, wishing she could see the woman again, just once more, instead of just a meaningless picture.

The girl grabbed her cell phone and pulled up a picture of her current girlfriend, someone her friends from school had set her up with.  The girl held her phone up next to the image on her desktop and looked at the two pictures, her eyes settling back on the image of the woman on her desktop.  Tears welling up in her eyes, the girl turned off her phone and quickly pulled up the internet to block the other picture.

The girl pulled up YouTube and searched for her all time favorite song, listening to it contently as it cheered her up.  Bobbing her head to the tune, she scrolled down and read through the comments, love for the song and people's own interpretations present.  A smile finally on her face, the girl stop reading abruptly at the comment "GO FUCK YOURSELF! IT'S NOT OK TO BE GAY!"

The girl, who spent the last four years of her life hardening herself as her friends abandoned her, as her family disowned her, as random strangers spat at her, as the love of her life ran from her when being gay got too difficult, but this one comment, the meaningless pixels on the screen that meant so little in the grave aspects of things, sent the girl over the edge, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Angry, the girl grabbed her mouse to reply to the comment with "And I suppose you don't think it's okay to be black either," but she stopped. The girl stared at the screen longer, her heart empty and hurting, and with a sigh, she closed out of her browser.

Who was the bigger human?  The girl who had done nothing to upset this random person, this random person who's words hurt her like knives stabbing her gut, did nothing.

Her browser closed, the girl looked at the picture of the woman on her background image.  She sighed heavily, fighting her uphill battle getting harder and harder.  Would it ever end?
